Cookie & Similar Technologies Policy

1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

Cookies are small pieces of information stored on your computer, phone or other device when you use a website.

Websites and web applications may also use technologies such as local storage, session storage and browser caches. Similar privacy and consent rules may apply where information is stored on or accessed from your device.

2. Strictly Necessary Technologies

Some cookies and local-storage technologies are required for services you request and for the website or Route Navigator to function properly.

These may be used for purposes such as:

• maintaining a WooCommerce shopping basket and checkout session;
• processing payments securely;
• remembering your cookie-consent preferences;
• maintaining Route Navigator connection and installation state;
• storing authorised Route Navigator data on your device;
• supporting limited offline Route Navigator operation;
• protecting the website and services against abuse and unauthorised access.

Where a technology is strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested, it may operate without optional cookie consent.

3. Website Analytics

3.1 Independent Analytics

We use Independent Analytics to understand how our website is used.

In our current configuration, Independent Analytics operates without ordinary visitor analytics cookies.

Analytics information is processed within our WordPress environment, as described in our Privacy Policy.

3.2 WooCommerce Attribution

WooCommerce includes an optional order-attribution feature that can create Sourcebuster cookies such as sbjs_* cookies.

We have disabled WooCommerce Order Attribution. These attribution cookies are therefore not currently used by Massbrook Driving School.

4. Google reCAPTCHA

We use Google reCAPTCHA v3 on certain website forms to help identify spam, automated submissions and abusive activity.

reCAPTCHA may process technical browser and request information and may use cookies or similar technologies when it operates.

Our consent system is configured to prevent reCAPTCHA from loading before the appropriate consent has been given.

Where reCAPTCHA is enabled following consent, Google’s own privacy and service terms also apply.

5. Google Reviews / Trustindex

We use a Trustindex widget to display selected public Google reviews.

The widget may load scripts, styles, reviewer images and other resources from Trustindex or Google when it is active.

Our consent system is configured to prevent the Trustindex review widget and associated third-party resources from loading before the appropriate consent has been given.

Once consent is given, normal browser request information such as an IP address may be received by the relevant third-party provider.

6. Route Navigator Local Storage

Route Navigator is a browser-based web application and uses local device storage to provide its core functionality.

This storage is used for operational purposes rather than advertising.

Locally stored information may include:

• the local Route Navigator installation identifier;
• connection and session information;
• downloaded authorised route data;
• route-access information required for offline operation;
• installation-completion state;
• map orientation and other application preferences;
• whether introductory messages have been dismissed.

Examples of local-storage keys currently used by Route Navigator include:

• massbrook.navigator.installationId
• massbrook.navigator.installCompletedAt
• massbrook.navigator.mapOrientation
• massbrook.navigator.welcomeDismissed

Additional local keys may be used where required for authentication, authorised route storage or application operation.

6.1 Why Route Navigator Uses Local Storage

Route Navigator uses local storage primarily to:

• recognise the local Navigator installation;
• maintain a connected session;
• remember application settings;
• make authorised route information available;
• support limited offline operation.

It is not designed to create advertising profiles or customer-level GPS journey histories.

6.2 Clearing Local Navigator Data

Signing out removes important local Route Navigator session and route data controlled by the application.

Some browser-managed caches or technical resources may remain until they expire or are cleared by your browser or device.

Clearing browser data or reinstalling the web app may remove the local installation identifier. Route Navigator may therefore recognise the browser or app as a new installation when it is reconnected.

7. OpenStreetMap

Route Navigator and certain website maps use OpenStreetMap background map tiles.

Our consent system is configured to prevent OpenStreetMap tile requests from being made before the appropriate consent has been given.

Once the map is enabled, your browser connects directly to OpenStreetMap’s tile servers.

OpenStreetMap may then receive ordinary network information such as:

• your IP address;
• browser request headers;
• the requested tile coordinates;
• the map zoom level.

Route Navigator does not attach your Massbrook customer details, access token or raw GPS coordinates to OpenStreetMap tile requests.

The browser may temporarily cache map tiles according to normal browser and HTTP caching behaviour.

8. WooCommerce and Checkout Storage

WooCommerce uses cookies and similar technologies necessary to provide shopping-basket and checkout functionality.

This can include storage used to remember the contents of your basket and maintain information required while moving through the checkout process.

Strictly necessary shopping and checkout storage may operate without optional consent where it is required to provide the service requested.

9. Services We Do Not Currently Use

Our current website configuration does not load:

• Google Analytics;
• externally hosted Google Fonts;
• Google Maps;
• YouTube embeds;
• Facebook Pixel;
• TikTok Pixel;
• Hotjar;
• Mixpanel.

Simple links to social-media websites may still be provided. Following such a link takes you to the relevant third-party website, whose own privacy and cookie rules then apply.

10. Consent Management

We use Complianz to manage cookie and similar-technology consent on the website.

Where consent is required, third-party services and non-essential technologies are blocked until the appropriate consent has been given.

Our current configuration has been tested to prevent Google reCAPTCHA, Trustindex review resources and OpenStreetMap tile requests from loading before consent.

11. Changing or Withdrawing Your Consent

You can use the cookie-preference controls available on our website to review or change your choices.

Where you have previously consented to optional technologies, you can withdraw or change that consent using the same controls.

You can also remove cookies and locally stored data through your browser or device settings.

Deleting necessary Route Navigator local data may sign you out, remove downloaded route information or cause the browser or app to be recognised as a new Route Navigator installation.

12. Storage Durations

The duration of a cookie or locally stored item depends on its purpose. Some technologies last only for the current browser session, while others may remain for a defined period or until they are manually cleared.

Our consent-management system may provide additional information about individual cookies and their current durations.

We periodically review our cookie and storage inventory because website software, services and browser behaviour can change.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie & Similar Technologies Policy where our website, Route Navigator, third-party services or consent configuration changes.

The date at the top of this page shows when this policy was last updated.
